Awesome mahi creating a boat! Did you already know how to make an origami boat, or did you learn how to do it for this activity?

Do you think your boat will be able to hold a lot of weight, or maybe travel a long distance? It could be fun to check out!

Now, I would like to know, what makes something float? Because I know that ships float, but they are awfully heavy.

    Pai mahi, Khadija!

    Ngā mihi nui,
    Charlotte :)

  2. Kia ora Khadija,

It’s Fiona from the Manaiakalani team. It’s great to see you giving the nanogirl challenge a go!

I really like your boat design. Have you done a lot of origami before? How interesting that something made of paper can float so well. We don’t usually think of paper as being a particularly waterproof material. I wonder how long this boat would last in the water before it became too waterlogged? That would be an interesting thing to test.

I can’t wait to see what other awesome creations you come up with over the summer.

    Ngā mihi,
    Fiona Waugh

  3. Hi Fiona,
I actually love doing oragami. I actually tested how long it can stay in the water until it became too waterlogged but of camera. It stayed in the water for 4mins and 36sec.
    Thank you
